Netflix developing live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ series with Berlanti Productions
Netflix is in development on a live-action version of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Scooby-Doo, hailing from Berlanti Productions for Warner Bros. Television.
The one-hour scripted series is being written and executive produced by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who were both involved in Netflix’s live action version of the anime Cowboy Bebop.
André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner are also attached to exec produce via their Midnight Radio banner, alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman for Berlanti Productions. Jonathan Gabay of Berlanti Productions and Adrienne Erickson are to co-executive produce.
Owned by Warner Bros, The Scooby-Doo franchise first launched in 1969 with the series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, with the series’ various iterations following four teenagers and their titular talking dog who solve seemingly supernatural mysteries.
The animation has made the leap to live action before, with the 2002 film Scooby-Doo and its 2004 sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. The most recent animated series iteration is 2019’s Scooby-Doo And Guess Who? for Boomerang and HBO Max.
Deadline first reported news of the live action Scooby-Doo adaptation.
