‘The Traitors’ & ‘Good Luck Guys’ among K7’s Tracking the Giants winners

The Traitors has been named Format of the Year in this year’s Tracking the Giants report from global consultancy firm K7 Media.

The format saw a year-on-year increase in new releases from seven in 2022 to 11 in 2023, with broadcasters including M6 in France picking up rights to local versions of the show.

The Traitors, which was created in the Netherlands by All3Media-backed IDTV for RTL4. It sees a group of strangers come together to complete a series of challenges to earn a cash prize, while avoiding being kicked out of the game by ‘traitors.’

Banijay format Good Luck Guys secured the Rising Format Star award with six new adaptations, while The Floor by Talpa Studios was picked out as the Format to Watch in 2024, fuelled by 10 new commissions following its premiere on RTL4 in the Netherlands.

The report, unveiled at MIPTV in Cannes this weekend, also highlighted the resurgence of format revivals, with Fremantle’s Family Feud taking the Revival of the Year prize. It has secured nine new adaptations, including both revivals and expansions into new markets.

K7 said that Germany, Spain and Belgium had been the leading importers of new formats over the past 12 months, knocking out the Netherlands, where domestic formats are cutting through. Spain experienced notable growth, with a significant portion of imports originating from the UK and Dutch markets.
