Amazon and Reece Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine have paired up to develop a spin-off from 2001 movie Legally Blonde.

The show is in the works with Amazon MGM Studios and Candle Media-backed Hello Sunshine, with the TV series set to be “inspired” by the movie.

Witherspoon starred in the hit show two decades ago and its sequel, with a third movie confirmed as being in the works in 2020.

The original plot followed a sorority girl played by Witherspoon as she tried to win back her former boyfriend by studying law at Harvard.

Details around the plot of the series are being kept under wraps, but Gossip Girl duo Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are attached to write.

“We’re bringing #LegallyBlonde back to your screens in a spin-off TV series inspired by the film,” Hello Sunshine wrote on Instagram.

“Currently in development with Amazon MGM Studios, the project has tapped Gossip Girl and The OC vets Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage to write.”

Legally Blonde was based on Amanda Brown’s novel and was produced by MGM, which was acquired by Amazon in October 2022.

The nascent Amazon MGM Studios division is also looking to tap into pre-existing audio IP, following a deal with sibling firm Audible.
