Amazon streamer Prime Video is expanding its sports output with a new documentary exploring the final days of Roger Federer’s career, with Asif Kapadia (Senna, Amy).

The untitled doc, which will track the final 12 days of the tennis star’s professional career, is based on home video footage that was not initially intended to be public viewing and will also include interviews with stars such as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

Kapadia directs alongside co-director Joe Sabia, with the Senna director’s Lafcadia Productions attached.

“Initially, the idea was to capture the final moments of my professional tennis career so that I could have it later on to show my family and friends,” said Federer.

“During my career, I tended to shy away from having cameras around me and my family, especially during important moments. But I didn’t see the harm in shooting this as it was never intended for the public.

“However, we captured so many powerful moments, and it transformed into a deeply personal journey,” he added.

The doc will be available globally on Prime Video, which has been behind numerous sports docs including a tennis-focused series on UK star Andy Murray.

The Amazon-owned streamer has also invested in sports rights, although it lost access to ATP and WTA events to Sky in the UK last year.
