The CW & Discovery+ investigate scripted thriller ‘Sherlock & Daughter’

Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streamer Discovery+ in the UK & Ireland and The CW in the US have ordered scripted mystery thriller Sherlock & Daughter, starring Harry Potter actor David Thewlis as fictional sleuth Sherlock Holmes.

Hailing from Starlings Television Distribution, Albion Television and StoryFirst, the series is led by showrunner and executive producer James Duff (The Closer) and is created, written and executive produced by Brendan Foley (Cold Courage).

Micah War Dog Wright and Shelly Goldstein are writers on the series, while Karine Martin, Chris Philip, Peter Gerwe, Dominic Barlow and Ivan Dunleavy also serve as executive producers, along with Escapade Media.

WBD has UK & Ireland rights to the series, while The CW will distribute the title in the US market.

The 8 x 60-minute drama, which will debut on both services later this year, follows Thewlis as an older Sherlock Holmes, less confident and out of his comfort zone. The renowned detective finds himself mysteriously unable to investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends.
Meanwhile young Amelia (Blu Hunt) learns her missing father may be the esteemed detective, after her mother’s shocking and unexplainable murder.

Sherlock battles between his intellect and his emotion when he is confronted with this young woman claiming to be his daughter. Despite wildly different backgrounds and attitudes, Amelia proves herself essential to cracking the case as the pair work together to solve a global conspiracy, the mystery of her mother’s murder and find out for sure if she really is Sherlock’s daughter. Dougray Scott also stars as Holmes’ nemesis, Moriarty.

The series was ordered in the UK by Clare Laycock, SVP Networks & Digital Content at Warner Bros. Discovery. It was commissioned for Discovery+ by Charlotte Reid, VP commissioning at Warner Bros. Discovery with co-financiers Krempelwood.
