Walter Presents among Davos 1917 buyers

Walter Presents has picked up North American rights to spy drama Davos 1917 following a deal with Telepool-owned Global Screen.

The show has also been sold to RTP in Portugal, as well as Filmin VOD services for Spain and Portugal, following already sales to Mediaset in Italy, MTVA in Hungary and ORF in Austria.

The 6 x 45-minute thriller, which launched in December on SRF Switzerland and ARD Germany, has been inspired by true events that explore the early days of the European Secret Services when agents descended on Davos in the latter days of the First World War.

The German- and Swiss-German language film is produced by Contrast Film, Letterbox Filmproduktion, Amalia Film, SRF and ARD Degeto. Brianne Bonney, head of TV sales at Global Screen, described the show as a “lavishly produced and emotionally-charged series set against the stunning backdrop of the Alps.”

Paramount’s C5 orders Yeti royal doc

Channel 5 in the UK has ordered a one-off doc that explores the scandalous lives of Edward and Wallis Simpson and the war-years they spent in the Bahamas.

Edward & Wallis: The Bahamas Scandal (working title) tracks how the duo were sent to The Bahamas in 1940 by Winston Churchill, ostensibly to take up governorship of the island.

However, the real reason behind their ‘exile’ was to keep their brazen Nazi sympathies quiet and stop them communicating with the enemy.

The show will feature newly uncovered British government files and FBI records that reveal what took place during the five years that the couple spent in the Caribbean, including secret affairs, blackmail plots, allegations of money laundering and involvement in an unsolved murder.

The film was commissioned by Daniel Pearl and Kate Ansell at Channel 5, is produced and directed by Rachel Jardine and the executive producer for Yeti is Siân Price.
