Quintus Studios is expanding its self-funded programming strategy by commissioning a show that explores some of the world’s most exotic yet dangerous places.

The first episode of Enter At Your Own Risk (w/t, 4 x 60 minutes) will debut on Quintus Studios Free Documentary AVOD channel in April 2024 and delves into life in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, one of the world’s largest slums that has harbours violence and criminality.

The show will also explore locations including the hidden corners of Brazil’s favelas behind Copacabana Beach and the notorious Klong Toey slum near the Koh San Road in Bangkok.

Freelance producer/ director Joel Ross (Adults Only) will produce, with Adam Jacobs exec producing for Quintus Studios.

Quintus develops and funds its own unscripted TV projects via a model that sees indies and freelance producers investing into projects in return for a greater revenue share. The aim is to speed up the commissioning process and award producers larger potential commercial revenues in the longer term.

Previous Quintus shows using the model include Banged Up: My Story with Middlechild Productions), Wild Cats with Big Media and Illegal Gold: The New Cocaine with Mazdoc. Shows have subsequently been acquired by broadcasters including ZDFinfo, Welt, Viaplay, n-tv, Discovery and AMC.

Quintus Studios owns and operates AVOD channel brands that claim to attract more than 11 million subscribers, with services including Free Documentary, FD Real and FD History, as well as FAST channel Radical Docs.
