Spanish ‘Zorro’ prodco Secuoya Studios hires SPT alum Brendan Fitzgerald as CEO
Secuoya Studios in Spain has hired former Sony Pictures Television (SPT) executive Brendan Fitzgerald to the newly created position of CEO.
Madrid-based Fitzgerald joins the firm, which recently launched adventure series Zorro on Prime Video, after serving as SVP of international English-language co-productions at SPT. Fitzgerald took up the Sony role in 2018 and during his tenure at the company has worked on titles including Leonardo for Prime Video and the development of an adaptation of Lizzy Barber’s psychological thriller Out Of Her Depth.
Secuoya said that Fitzgerald’s “extensive experience in the development, production and launch of prime time and OTT series in the United States, Latin America, Spain and Italy, as well as his broad experience in the creation and monetisation of cross-cultural business opportunities, will be key in achieving Secuoya Studios’ goals for the coming years”
The company is currently in development on more than 20 projects across limited series, ongoing shows, film and unscripted, with its slate including historical series Los 39, an adaptation of Javier Cercas’ Terra Alta and a remake of Turkish telenovela Brave And Beautiful.
“For Secuoya Content Group, it is a privilege to have Brendan Fitzgerald’s background and experience at the helm of Secuoya Studios, a leading player in the Spanish and international film and TV industry,” said Raúl Berdonés, CEO of parent company, Secuoya Content Group.
Last year, Secuoya Studios formed a strategic partnership with Rubicon Global Media, the nascent company set up by former Legendary Television president and Starz CEO Chris Albrecht and Pongalo founder Jorge Granier.
Under the deal, Secuoya Studios provides development funding and deficit financing for certain Rubicon series and films.
