Buyer’s Profile: Selina Nederhand, SVP & co-networks, head of content strategy, Sony Pictures Television
With NATPE Global underway, TBI speaks to Selina Nederhand, SVP & co-networks, head of content strategy, Sony Pictures Television about the US business’ content demands.
Which countries/regions/windows are you acquiring for and how flexible can you be on rights?
Latin America (including Brazil) for Sony Pictures Television’s networks business (pay-TV & digital companion rights), and Latin America & the USH market for TV distribution purposes (generally all windows, all rights). Each deal is different and the needs for the networks and for TV distribution are completely different, so flexibility is determined on a case by case basis.
What types of shows are working best for you?
Procedural TV series and blockbuster movie titles work best for our networks.
What is your main objective to achieve at NATPE Global this year?
I’m looking forward to meeting with the international content distributors to see what’s new and see how the market compares to Content Americas
How do you expect AI to affect the business this year?
I am not working directly with AI, but I am closely following the developments on AI in the trades and look forward to seeing how it will develop.
Tell us about one key trend that is likely to emerge over the next six months (that we haven’t already seen)?
I am not a trend watcher and so it’s hard to give you a trend that we haven’t already seen or heard about. If only I knew!
Which show (not from your own company) are you most looking forward to watching in 2024?
There are many shows I look forward to this year, such as Capote Vs The Swans – such a great cast; Shogun – I am a fan of martial arts and curious as to how they’ve adapted the original; and Palm Royale – always in for a good laugh.
