BBC unveils almost 60 prodcos set to benefit from Small Indie Fund

Almost 60 production companies with turnovers below £10m ($12.5m) are to receive support via the BBC’s Small Indie Fund.

The scheme, which launched in 2020 and has previously supported companies including Dreaming Whilst Black firm Big Deal Films, aims to support the growth of small independent production companies from across the UK.

Prodcos can work in drama, entertainment, comedy, factual, daytime and children’s, while film has also been included for this year’s cohort.

The BBC said the 57 companies picked for 2024 represents the highest ever number of diverse-led producers – with 77% (44) companies having at least two individuals in specific leadership roles from one of the following under-represented groups: Black, Asian or minority ethnic, Disabled and/or Working class.

38 companies, representing 67% of this year’s entrants, are based outside of London, with an increase in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the West Midlands on 2023.

The scheme will see around £1.5m invested across the prodcos, with a BBC commissioning editor attached to each company to assist growth.
