Germany’s Bavaria Fiction restructures development division under Thomas Kren
German scripted firm Bavaria Fiction is restructuring its development division under Thomas Kren amid a ramp up of its co-productions.
The company said that the move was being made to focus on “internal expertise,” with development exec Kren, who reports to MD of content Marcus Ammon, expanding his remit to “accelerate and coordinate discussions with both broadcasters and creatives.”
Bavaria Fiction said that it also plans to develop more co-productions and “centrally evaluate corresponding material.”
Kren joined Bavaria Fiction in 2021 with an initial focus on the development of high-end streaming projects and the management and implementation of writers’ rooms as a creative producer.
From 2016 to 2022, Kren also headed the editing department of the local fiction division of German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 Media.
As an editor, he was responsible for the novel adaptations of German thriller series including Todesfrist and Todesurteil, and as creative producer, the cinema revival of Der letzte Bulle for SevenPictures.
“With Thomas, we are establishing a central development leader within Bavaria Fiction. His understanding of dramaturgy and his expertise in content make him the perfect sparring partner at eye level with our executive producers,” said Ammon.
Based in Munich and headed by Ammon and Jan S Kaiser, Bavaria Fiction is a subsidiary of Bavaria Film and ZDF Studios, It is behind titles such as Das Boot, Arctic Circle and Freud.
