BBC Studios & NBCUIS alum joins Fifth Season to lead UK & European production

Normal People

Normal People producer Fifth Season has hired a former BBC Studios and NBCU International Studios (NBCUIS) exec to oversee its UK and European scripted productions.

Charlotte Bloxham takes the newly created position of SVP of physical production and will work with UK creative director Ben Irving on all of Fifth Season’s UK and European output.

She is based out of London for the CJ ENM-owned firm and starts 2 January, reporting into Todd Sharp, president of physical production & current.

Bloxham was most recently director of production at BBC Studios Drama Productions, where she worked on Doctor Who following the deal that saw become a co-production with Bad Wolf and Disney+.

She was also responsible for overseeing production on Jimmy McGovern’s Time, Life And Death In The Warehouse and veteran crime drama Silent Witness.

Prior to that, Bloxham was SVP of production for NBCUIS between 2018 and 2021, overseeing all television production for Heyday Television, Working Title Television and NBC Universal Studios international productions.

She also led production at Fifty Fathoms, where she was responsible for The A Word among others, and spent 15 years as a line producer, gaining credits on shows such as London Spy and Wallander.

Sharp said Bloxham’s “deep expertise within the UK and European production space” would assist the company as it looks to “further expand our production capabilities internationally.”

Bloxham added: “It’s hugely exciting to join Fifth Season during this key period of growth, as it builds on this success and strengthens its production business out of the UK. I look forward to working closely with Todd, Ben and the wider team to help bring the studio’s exciting project pipeline to life for global audiences.”

Earlier this year, the Severance and Omnivore producer cut more than 10% of its workforce as it dealt with the effects of the US writers and actors strikes, with the cuts coming six months after Fifth Season laid off eight staff including Shelby White, director of TV creative, and Danielle Gerber, VP of physical production.

The company’s SVP of documentaries Kevin Iwashina also stepped down in April.
