CBS ends Young Sheldon
US network CBS is bringing the curtain down on Young Sheldon, its spin-off from The Big Bang Theory.
The show, which received a three-season commission in 2021, will end after its upcoming seventh season having charted the formative years of The Big Bang Theory’s character Sheldon during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The series launched in 2017 and stars Iain Armitage as the young Sheldon Cooper, who was portrayed by Jim Parsons in The Big Bang Theory, with Parsons narrating the show and serving as exec producer.
Show creators Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro exec produced alongside Parsons and Todd Spiewak for Chuck Lorre Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
BBCS strikes deal in Japan
Japanese streamer Lemino has struck a pact with BBC Studios (BBCS) that will see it acquire a raft of UK dramas and factual series.
The deal marks the first partnerhsip between the companies and hands Lemino rights to shows such as Sherlock (S1-4), Death In Paradise (S1-11) and Life Below Zero (S1-9).
UK dramas such as Call The Midwife (S1-11) and Father Brown (S1-10), plus The Pursuit of Love and Sanditon, are also inlcuded along with docuseries Greta Thunberg: A Year to Change The World.
Shinfield Studios nears final phase
UK development Shinfield Studios is nearing completion of its final phase of construction and will have all 18 soundstages available by early 2024.
Based near Reading in Berkshire, Shinfield Studio offers two of the largest soundstages available in the UK at 43,000 sq. ft. each.
On completion, the studio campus will include 18 soundstages, 38 workshops, substantial and contemporary office space, and a 9-acre filming backlot.
Nick Smith, joint MD at Shinfield Studios, said: “Shinfield Studios now looks just like the plans we put to paper several years ago. Not only does it feel like a slice of Hollywood in Berkshire, it also offers producers everything that we promised.
“That’s to say a modern studio facility that has been carefully designed from the ground-up to meet all the needs of the most ambitious film and HETV productions.”
Shinfield Studios is owned by US-based Shadowbox Studios, which is controlled by affiliates of Commonwealth Asset Management and Silver Lake.
