Propagate cooking up format with World Food Championships
US producer-distributor Propagate has partnered with the World Food Championships to develop and produce a series based around the contest.
Michael Rucker is attached to develop the format and as showrunner on the project, working alongside the competition, which is run by Food Sport.
Rucker’s credits include Project Runway, Work Of Art, Fast Foodies, Top Chef and 101 Places To Party Before You Die.
The World Food Championships is a multi-day, live event culinary competition that showcases some of the world’s best cooks who compete for food, fame and fortune in 12 categories, such as bacon, barbecue, burger and cocktail.
Each January, Food Sport kicks off with thousands of cook teams trying to earn their way into the championships by winning a ‘Golden Ticket’ at an official qualifier. Since its inception in 2012, almost 40 countries and every state in the US has been represented at the main event, which takes place in November in Dallas, Texas.
“The WFC team has built a food competition powerhouse with a wide range of live events around the world and across the US. We are confident that through this partnership we can develop an equally exciting and unique series that will appeal to broadcast, cable, or streaming outlets globally” said Propagate chairman and co-CEO Ben Silverman and co-CEO Howard T. Owens.
Founded in 2015, Propagate has offices in Los Angeles, New York and Paris, and is behind titles including Hillary for Hulu, LFG for HBO Max in partnership with CNN Films and Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me for Netflix.
Earlier this year, TBI exclusively revealed that the firm had launched a $50m fund to invest in documentaries, as it looks to ramp up its output in the genre.
