Amazon extends superhero spin-off ‘Gen V’ for sophomore season
Prime Video has renewed superhero series Gen V for a second season.
A spin-off from the Amazon-owned streamer’s hit series The Boys, the Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television-produced show follows students training to be the next generation of superheroes.
The series is set at Godolkin University, where the wannabe heroes vie for popularity and good grades, but the stakes quickly turn out to be much higher when a group of discovers that a sinister conspiracy is at work on school grounds.
TBI spoke to showrunner Michele Fazekas and exec producer Eric Kripke earlier this month about bringing the show to the screen.
Kripke likened the series to Marvel heroes the X-Men, but where the students are “fucking and pulling bong loads, which is what they would all be doing at a school.”
At the time of the interview, a writers’ room for a second season had been convened, with Kripke said was a “good sign” for the show’s future.
Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios, has now confirmed a sophomore season is in the works. “Gen V is Prime Video’s most acquisitive new original series of 2023, and we’re excited that our incredible cast and crew are going to continue telling brave and bold stories from Gen V to our customers,” he said.
“The writers are already working on the new season – sophomore year is gonna be wild, with all the twists, heart, satire, and exploding genitalia you’ve come to expect from the show,” added showrunner Fazekas and Kripke.
Season one of Gen V is currently streaming on Prime Video and set to conclude on 3 November.
