India’s JioCinema extends reality push with trip to ‘Temptation Island’
Indian streamer JioCinema is launching a local version of Banijay’s reality format Temptation Island, marking the show’s debut in the country and the latest expansion of its reality offering.
The series is being produced by Banijay Asia and follows dating couples as they decide whether they are ready to commit to one another or go their separate ways.
The couples live the ‘single life’ on an island paradise alongside a group of singles who try to tempt them away from their relationships, and must ultimately decide whether to stay in their relationship or part ways.
Temptation Island is the latest reality addition for the Viacom18-owned Indian OTT service, which partnered with dating app Tinder to exclusively stream its new show Swipe Ride earlier this year.
The streamer also picked up HBO and Warner Bros. programming after striking a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery in April and agreed a similar pact with NBCUniversal this summer, providing it with shows such as The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump Rules and Family Karma.
The deals followed the completion of a merger involving Reliance Industries, Bodhi Tree Systems – an investment JV of James Murdoch and former Disney Star chairman Uday Shankar – and Paramount Global, which saw JioCinema integrated fully into Viacom18.
TV18, Viacom18’s nominal parent, backed by Reliance Industries, has a 51% stake in the company with the balance held by Paramount Global and Bodhi Tree Investments.
