Netflix ups Amy Reinhard to lead advertising as price rise reports emerge

Netflix could be about to hike the price of its ad-free offerings, while there are also changes afoot within its advertising team.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the streamer is discussing the possibility of upping prices in a number of markets with the most likely being the US and Canada.

The paper did not report on the size of the increase but it is expected to come when the SAG-AFTRA Hollywood actors strike draws to a close.

SAG-AFTRA and producers’ outfit, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), are set to meet again today. Writers’ organisation the WGA struck a deal last month paving the way for a return to work after some five months.

The move comes as Netflix increasingly turns its attention to upping its revenues rather subscriptions, having laid the groundwork for price rises by terminating its ‘basic without ads’ offering in its domestic market.

Reports of a prices rise coincided with news that the streamer’s president of advertising, Jeremi Gorman, is leaving the company after a year in the role.

The former Snap exec is being replaced by Amy Reinhard, Netflix’s VP of studio operations and the former VP of content acquisitions, who was previously at Paramount.
