ITVX investigates online true crime with ‘TikTok: Murders Gone Viral’
UK streamer ITVX has commissioned TikTok: Murders Gone Viral, a new true crime series exploring three murder cases that were followed widespread on the social media app.
The 3 x 60-minute series features exclusive access to the families of the victims and other key contributors in the story of 24-year-old TikTok influencer Mahek Bukhari from Stoke-on-Trent, known online as MayBVlogs, who was recently convicted of double murder.
The Bukhari case is examined alongside two other murders, with each episode telling the story of one individual case, keeping the murder victims at its heart and using never-before-seen footage, extensive details of each police investigation and exclusive interviews with those closest to the case.
Produced by Nine Lives, the series uses extensive TikTok archive, providing an intimate insight into each individual and unpacking the dynamic between victim and perpetrator. The series was commissioned for ITVX by Nicola Lloyd, factual commissioning editor, and Sue Murphy, head of factual entertainment. It is distributed internationally by ITV Studios.
“In an era where social media can turn ordinary lives into global spectacles, this series delves into the disturbing stories of crimes that captivated the world through TikTok. It’s a reflection of our fascination with the digital age and its impact on the darkest corners of human behaviour,” said Lloyd.
