Formats round-up: ERT1 brings ‘Switch’ to Greece; Glow Media revives ‘Pros Vs Joes’; Joyn orders ‘Good Luck Guys’
ERT1 brings ‘Switch’ to Greece
Greece pubcaster ERT1 has ordered a local adaptation of Lineup Industries’ gameshow format Switch.
VCM Production will produce the 80 x 50-minute series, which is based on a format developed by Panenka for VRT in Belgium and distributed globally by Lineup Industries.
The deal for a local version in Greece comes on the heels of a recommission for 100 more episodes by Game Show Network, produced in the US by DIGA Studios.
In Switch, five players begin the game by taking positions behind large numbers from one to five. After a trivia question is asked, players with correct answers move towards the number one spot, and players with incorrect answers move towards the number five spot.
The goal of the game is to finish the third round of questions in the number one position, thus winning the game and earning the right to play the bonus round for a cash prize.
Glow Media revives ‘Pros Vs Joes’
Noughties gameshow format Pros Vs Joes is being revived in the US and brought to Europe for the first time by Belgian format distributor Glow Media.
Originally broadcast on Viacom owned Spike (now Paramount Network), Pros Vs Joes aired for five seasons between 2006-2010, produced and created by My Entertainment.
The format has been updated and will be re-launched at MIPCOM by Glow Media.
Athletes including Dennis Rodman, Michael Irvin and Darryl Strawberry took part in the original show in which ordinary people with a love and skill in sport, who never quite made it to the next level, show their skills against infamous sports stars in various sports games.
Glow Media MD Siobhan Crawford said: “I have chased this format for ages. We are in a time where older, familiar brands are out-performing new launches, where sports adjacent programming is in demand and everyone loves an underdog story. Now redeveloped, this format is stronger than ever”.
Joyn orders ‘Good Luck Guys’
German streamer Joyn has ordered a local remake of reality show Good Luck Guys.
The show is being produced by Banijay Germany label Good Times, and marks the seventh adaptation of the fish-out-of water adventure reality format. It follows a group of reality show alumni who trade their life of luxury with a back-to-basics adventure on an isolated tropical beach.
Good Luck Guys was originally created by Banijay Productions France, where it airs on W9. It sold to Amazon’s Prime Video for Benelux last week, and has already been remade in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The format is distributed by Banijay Rights.
