News round-up: Global deals for ‘Best Interests’; C5 enters ‘The Incident Room’; AMC renews ‘Dark Winds’

Global deals for ‘Best Interests’

France Télévisions, RTÉ in Ireland, ABC in Australia, Hot in Israel, Antenna in Greece, NPO in the Netherlands and Now TV in Hong Kong have all acquired BBC drama Best Interests.

The deals for the Jack Thorne-penned series were secured by distributor Fifth Season, following the show’s Uk debut in June.

Produced by AC Chapter One, Best Interests stars Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen as married couple Nicci and Andrew with two daughters: Katie played by Alison Oliver and Marnie played by Niamh Moriarty.

Marnie has a life-threatening condition. The doctors believe it is in her best interests to be allowed to die, but her family disagree – and so begins a fight that will take them through every stage of a legal process, as they struggle to contemplate this huge decision. Who decides? And in whose best interests will it be?

The Incident Room

C5 enters ‘The Incident Room’

UK broadcaster Channel 5 has commissioned true crime show The Incident Room, which explores the high-stakes world of murder investigations.

Produced by True North, the 2 x 60-minute series sees viewers led through each step of the investigation by the original detectives who worked the case – including interviews with friends and family members, psychologists and forensic investigators.

The show reveals step-by-step the processes detectives use to discover clues, identify dangerous suspects, piece together the puzzle of each case, and bring killers to justice.

AMC renews ‘Dark Winds’

AMC Networks has renewed drama series Dark Winds for a third season.

The renewal follows the finale of season two on AMC and AMC+ earlier this month, with the show also streaming on Max as part of HBO’s deal with AMC.

The third season of Dark Winds is expected to debut in 2025. Based on the Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman, the show is created by Graham Roland.

John Wirth serves as showrunner and the series is executive produced by Roland, Wirth, McClarnon, Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Anne Hillerman, Chris Eyre, Vince Gerardis and Tina Elmo.

In the show’s second season, Lt. Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), reunited with Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), his former deputy turned private eye, when their separate cases brought them together in pursuit of the same suspect.
