Hulu cancels ‘The Great’ after three seasons

The Great

Hulu has cancelled period drama The Great, with its third season released in May now set to be its last.

The show had been created and written by Tony McNamara, with Civic Center Media producing in association with MRC Television.

The story was set in Russia and tracked the relationship between Catherine The Great and Emperor Peter III during row 18th Century.

It starred Ellie Fanning and Nicholas Hoult, with the third season debuting to largely positive reviews on Hulu on 12 May.

The cancellation comes amid a tightening of belts as streamers look for profits over subscriber growth. The Great had been sold to Channel 4 in the UK, Stan in Australia, Prime Video in Canada and StarzPlay across Europe and Latin America.

The latter has recently been pulled from swathes of Europe, with plans to exit Lat Am next year.
