‘Clarkson’s Farm’ is “bigger than Jeremy”, say Amazon bosses
Clarkson’s Farm is “bigger than Jeremy”, the Prime Video UK team has said at Edinburgh TV Festival, indicating that the popular agricultural documentary series could continue without its divisive star.
Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson caused outrage following a newspaper column he wrote about Meghan Markle in which he said that the Duchess of Sussex should be “made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds throw lumps of excrement at her.”
UK unscripted lead Fozia Khan told the festival audience that Amazon bosses were “shocked and disappointed” in Clarkson’s words, but had nevertheless pushed forward with the show – “when this happened, we were in production, so we made the decision to carry on production.”
Attempting to divert the conversation to how much of a “phenomenon” the Expectation-produced series – which is currently in production with its third season – has been for Prime Video UK, originals chief Dan Grabiner said that the show was “a hell of a lot bigger than Jeremy Clarkson.”
Pressed on the issue of the show’s future, Grabiner said: “No decisions have been made. We are not interrupting the current production of the show,” and admitted: “We just don’t know, is the honest answer. But it’s not an easy question… it’s been very hotly debated and it’s something we’re putting a lot of thought into.”
