‘Warrior Nun’ to return as movie trilogy, with TV & film franchise teased

Netflix’s cancelled fantasy action series Warrior Nun is to return as a movie trilogy, with plans to potentially expand the franchise across TV and film.

The series came to an end last year after two seasons on the streamer, but fervent demand for its return by audiences appears to have paid off.

Thanking fans for their support, executive producer Dean English took to social media to reveal: “I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three.”

English noted that the current writers and actors strikes in Hollywood makes it difficult to share many details about the revival – such as where the films will launch or whether the cast will return. However, he did reveal: “Some may ask, ‘Does this perhaps infer that there’s going to be a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know?’ The answer to that question is yes. And there will be more details in the future.”

Show creator Simon Barry previously teased a return for the show in June, though reports at the time indicated that it would not be heading back to Netflix for a third season.

Inspired by the manga series Warrior Nun Areala, the show starred Alba Baptista as 19-year-old Ava, who comes back from the dead with incredible new powers and discovers she is now part of an ancient order tasked with battling demons that walk the Earth.
