MGM Alternative & GroupM prep dog docuseries for UK’s Channel 5

Paramount-owned Channel 5 in the UK has commissioned a four-part series about dogs from MGM Alternative and GroupM Motion Entertainment.

Underdog To Super Dog (working title) is to be hosted by Alan Titchmarsh (Love Your Garden) and follows three dogs as they undergo transformative training to take on extraordinary challenges, such as modelling and mountain rescue.

Each episode will highlight the impact that training and purposeful tasks have on dogs, improving their mental health, stimulating their minds and enhancing their fitness.

Dom Bird exec produces for Amazon-owned MGM Alternative and Melanie Darlaston is attached for GroupM, with the show slated for 2024.

Denise Seneviratne, who commissioned the show for C5, said: “Heart-warming and funny, the dogs will go on a journey of discovery – and not always the ones they had planned on! Alan Titchmarsh will bring inimitable heart to this – he is a huge dog lover, and I am delighted he is part of it.”

Bird added: “If your dog is mischievous, destructive or downright naughty, they probably just need a goal in life. But can a modern-day mutt pass muster doing the job they were once bred to do? We’re about to find out, as we take some of the nation’s least likely dogs and give them a crash course and whole new lease of life along the way.”
