News round-up: FilmRise acquires BBCS shows; Sky History seeks ‘Sex’; LADbible launches US formats
FilmRise acquires BBCS shows
FilmRise, the New York-based film, and television studio and streaming network, has licensed AVOD and FAST rights to over 480 episodes of programming from BBC Studios for the FilmRise Streaming Network.
The package includes various series of different genres, notably 23 seasons of the crime drama Silent Witness; four seasons of Wallander; five seasons of Ripper Street; sci-fi series Primeval; and Canadian time-travel show Being Erica.
Max Einhorn of FilmRise said, “BBC Studios is behind some of the best programming in the world and we’re excited to bring this content to the FilmRise Streaming Network.”
Sky History seeks ‘Sex’
A+E Networks EMEA has commissioned One Tribe TV and Motion Content Group to make a 5 x 60-minute factual entertainment series fronted by Amanda Holden and Dan Jones entitled Sex: A Bonkers History to premiere on Sky History in September 2023.
The original UK commission will follow actress, singer, and presenter Amanda Holden and best-selling author and historian Dan Jones as they explore how sexual behaviours through the ages have shaped civilisations in ways we are only now beginning to discover. The series will use archive footage and drama reconstruction, with Amanda Holden and Dan Jones taking the leading roles to shed light on history’s best unknown sex stories.
Amanda Holden said: “Believe me when I say our generation knows nothing about sex compared to the debauched antics of our ancestors! My goodness, I’ve really had my eyes opened, and had a real laugh, during the filming of this brilliant new series.”
LADbible launches US formats
LADbible Group has launched its fact-ent division, LADstudios, in the US, landing with three new digital-first formats.
Get A Job is a straight-to-camera format that sees celebrity-focused interviews that put stars to work with a series of questions and challenges related to their lives and careers.
Through a satirical lens of the corporate workplace environment, the show aims to offer fans a fun and informative way to get to know their favourite celebrities and culminates with a permanent “job offer” from UNILAD.
The second original series is Grub Or Gourmet, hosted by Marco Lombardi, which explores high and low-end eats through a cultural lens.
Finally, Don’t Hang Up is a prank call competition show. In each episode, LADbible will pit three comics against each other to see who can complete the most pranks with clear end goals.
