Choi Ju-hui & Chang-Gun Koo

South Korea’s CJ ENM has appointed a former Disney+ exec to lead its streaming service, TVING.

Choi Ju-hui becomes CEO at the Korean streamer and becomes the first female CEO in the Korean OTT industry, according to CJ ENM.

She was previously part of Walt Disney Korea, managing the business strategy for Asia including the launch of Disney+ and had earlier worked for the Boston Consulting Group.

Choi was most recently working at online fashion platform W Concept and luxury e-commerce platform Trenbe, where she oversaw business including strategy, sales, marketing and IT.

CJ ENM’s global strategy

Her appointment comes as CJ ENM looks to maintain its global expansion plans, which include investing more than ₩5tn ($4.5bn) in content creation over the next five years to fuel global growth.

It has also partnered with Paramount+ on local originals such as A Bloody Lucky Day and Queen Woo, which will be available in Korea on TVING and on the US studio’s streamer elsewhere.

The company also restructured its entertainment team late last year, with Chang-Gun Koo becoming CEO to replace Ho-sung Kang, who moved to become co-CEO at subsidiary CJ Group.

The Korean firm has also named Kim Ji-won as head of its K-POP culture platform Mnet Plus.

She previously worked for Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and NCSOFT, as well as global IT companies such as US-based Moloco and edtech developer Mathpresso.

Mnet Plus was launched by CJ ENM last year and provides K-Pop content, including original IP and music content.
