Marie Antoinette

Disney+ has picked up historical drama Marie Antoinette in Germany, marking the latest deal for the fast-travelling French series.

The show, which has already been acquired by PBS in the US, was produced for Canal+ by Banijay Studios France, CAPA Drama and Les Gens. Banijay Rights sells globally.

The series has been created by Davis (The Favourite) and tells the story of the modern and avant-garde young queen as she navigates the French political establishment.

Joining Davis in writing is Louise Ironside (The Split), Avril E. Russell (All on a Summer’s Day) and Chloë Moss (Run Sister Run), with Pete Travis (Bloodlands) and Geoffrey Enthoven (Children Of Love) directing.

Banijay Rights has now sold the show to more than 70 countries, including UK public broadcaster BBC2 and BBC First in Australia, as well as networks across Europe and Latin America. A second season has already been ordered by Canal+.

Banijay Rights’ Veronique Verges, SVP of German-speaking territories, Poland & Hungary, brokered the deal with Disney+.
