France’s Série Series cancels 2023 edition as organisers “rethink” drama event
French drama festival Série Series will not be taking place this summer, with organisers confirming that the Fontainebleau-based event is “rethinking” its model.
Série Series was created in 2012 by Marie Barraco and produced by her company Kandimari, with last year’s event attracting a raft of writers, producers and senior execs including Disney+ France chief Pauline Dauvin.
However, organisers said that after 11 editions, the event would now be “taking a breather and adapting its formula to the continuously evolving series sector.”
The event, which had been backed by the Île-de-France Region, will now be housed within the Série Series association “in a reimagined format that embraces the future and aligns with industry expectations.”
A new series of events are set to be unveiled later this year, although further details were not revealed.
Série Series, which last year took place in early July, had been a popular rendezvous for both the French and international scripted communities but has faced increasing competition on the event calendar.
“We are determined to remain in tune with the expectations and needs of a sector that has undergone a veritable revolution in recent years, and it now seems essential for us to rethink our model and our initiatives,” organisers said. “There will thus be no Série Series event in Fontainebleau this summer.”
