Amazon Prime Video adapts graphic novel ‘Butterfly’ with ‘The Good Doctor’ prodco 3AD

Amazon Prime Video has ordered a six-part drama based on graphic novel Butterfly, from one of the production firms behind ABC hit The Good Doctor.

The show, which will not go into production until the US writers agree a new deal, is from Daniel Dae Kim’s 3AD and Boom! Studios, which published the novel in 2015.

Butterfly was created by Arash Amel and explores the complex lives of a family living in South Korea who are involved in international espionage.

Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist) is attached as showrunner and co-creator, alongside author Steph Cha, with Kim set to star.

Kim’s 3AD, which has a development first-look deal with Amazon Studios, is behind doc Bad Axe and the seventh season of The Good Doctor, which is based on the 2013 Korean hit.
