Sony faith streamer Pure Flix to merge with cable & FAST operator Great American Media

A Thousand Tomorrows

Sony Pictures Television-owned faith and family streaming service Pure Flix is to merge with cable and FAST operator Great American Media.

Great American Media’s portfolio includes cable networks Great American Family and Great American Living and FAST channel Great American Adventures.

Pure Flix, home to faith-based original series such as A Thousand Tomorrows and Guardians, was acquired by Sony in December 2020.

Great American Media president and CEO, Bill Abbott, will serve as CEO of the merged company, reporting to the board of directors, with his firm retaining a majority interest and overseeing day-to-day management of the combined entity.

The new company will build on the multi-channel family and faith media brands in the portfolio. Financial terms of the merger were not disclosed.

“In a media environment where programming and distribution business models are in a constant state of flux, this agreement provides a rare opportunity to maximise our potential with the expertise, market knowledge and content creation capabilities of a world class partner like Sony Pictures,” said Abbott.

“This merger will allow us to further our commitment to original, quality content and makes Great American Media and Pure Flix leaders in a large and under-served market.”
