BBC Studios inks development & distribution deal with ‘Mood’ producer Bonafide Films

BBC Studios has struck a development and distribution deal with Bonafide Films, the UK production firm behind last year’s BBC3 musical drama Mood.

Under the terms of the deal, BBC Studios will invest in Bonafide’s development slate and gain a first-look on distribution rights on its projects.

The Margery Bone-led Bonafide was also behind the Peter Moffatt-scripted 2017 BBC drama The Last Post and is currently in development on projects with Wolf Hall screenwriter Peter Straughan, Rocks director Sarah Gavron and Killing Eve writer-director Miranda Bowen.

BBC Studios was previously responsible for brokering the co-production deal for Bonafide for Mood with AMC and also secured sales to 12 territories internationally.

The deal comes following Bonafide’s recent appointment of Tom Dunbar as executive producer, joining the company from Jeff Pope’s ITV Studios label, where he worked on The Walk-In and The Reckoning.

“In a highly competitive market, it’s distinctive stories by incredible talents that cut through to audiences and we’re delighted that BBC Studios shares our vision and drive,” said Bone. “This investment builds on our existing relationship and hugely expands on our ambitions for the future, for which we can’t wait.”
