UK-based Pinewood Group has taken full ownership of Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the acquisition gives the group control of the Mega Stage – one of the largest purpose-built soundstages in North America.

Pinewood Group, owners of the UK’s Pinewood and Shepperton Studios, has been providing sales and marketing services for the facility since 2009 when its name was incorporated into the Toronto studios.

The 490,000 square foot production lot is located on a 33.5-acre site and is home to 16 purpose-built soundproof stages to accommodate productions of all sizes.

TV series that have been filmed at Pinewood Toronto Studios include Netflix’s Jupiter’s Legacy and season three of The Expanse, for Syfy, as well as film titles such as Shazam! Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark and both It films.

Paul Golding, chairman of the Pinewood Group said: We have worked with our partners for many years to create the city’s pre-eminent studio, and we’re now delighted to have bought it.

“We will continue to invest in the studio and the surrounding Port Lands to ensure Pinewood Toronto Studios remains the number one destination for both domestic and international productions. We intend to work closely with the city to support Toronto’s thriving film and TV industry and all those who work in it.”
