Netflix orders ‘Man On Fire’ series & ‘Snow Girl’ sequel

Tony Scott’s 2004 feature ‘Man On Fire’

Netflix is going big on thrillers with orders for a series based on the A.J. Quinnell novels Man On Fire and Perfect Kill, as well as a follow-up its recent limited series The Snow Girl, with two shows adapted from Javier Castillo’s El Juego Del Alma and El Cuco De Cristal.

Produced by Chernin Entertainment and New Regency Productions and written and executive produced by Kyle Killen, Man On Fire will be based on the first two novels in Quinnell’s John Creasy series – Man On Fire and Perfect Kill.

The eight-part series will follow the story of Creasy, a broken ex-mercenary on a mission to avenge the death of his only friend, while protecting his fallen comrade’s daughter from the forces that destroyed her family.

The first book was previously adapted as a 1987 feature film starring Scott Glenn and then again in 2004 starring Denzel Washington and directed by Tony Scott.

Jenno Topping, Bill McGoldrick, and Juan Alfonso will exec produce for Chernin Entertainment under their Netflix deal, alongside Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer for New Regency Productions which controls the rights to the IP and also produced Tony Scott’s feature adaptation.

Killen and Scott Pennington will also exec produce for Chapter 11.

Spanish sequel

Meanwhile, Netflix is following up its adaptation of Javier Castillo’s Spanish mystery thriller The Snow Girl with screen versions of his novels El Juego Del Alma and El Cuco De Cristal.

Currently in pre-production, El Juego Del Alma is the sequel to The Snow Girl which continues the story of journalist Miren Rojo during the investigation of a new case.

Launched in January, Atípica Films’ The Snow Girl starred Milena Smit (who will return for the sequel) in the lead role as she investigated the disappearance of a missing girl. The limited series was in the Top 10 in 77 countries for several weeks.

Meanwhile, an adaptation of his latest novel, El Cuco De Cristal, which was published by Penguin Random House last month, will also start development soon.
