Ex-Virgin Media TV content chief Bill Malone launches scripted & factual co-pro outfit

Bill Malone, former director of content at Irish comcaster Virgin Media Television, has launched a new production company, Cable Rock Pictures.

The firm will specialise in Irish and international co-productions across scripted and premium factual programming, with Malone serving as managing director and executive producer.

Malone exited Virgin Media Television in the new year after leading the company’s programming strategy for more than six years. During his time there, he brokered international and Irish co-pros including the drama Blood and the documentary Finding Jack Charlton, as well as working on shows like The Guards: Inside The K and Gogglebox Ireland.

Malone, who described working at Virgin Media Television as a “career highlight” in a memo to staff before his exit, joined the company, then TV3, in 2016 as director of programming. He previously served as channel controller for RTÉ2, spending more than 12 years at the broadcaster.
