Viaplay series & kids head Stephen Mowbray exits

Stephen Mowbray

Stephen Mowbray, Viaplay Group’s head of series & kids, has exited the company.

A spokesman for Viaplay Group confirmed Mowbray’s departure to TBI and said that the exec “has decided to pursue opportunities elsewhere.”

Mowbray joined the company, then named Nordic Entertainment Group, in 2021, and during his time at the firm oversaw the launch of original shows including eight-part kids fantasy series Karma & Jonar, and the acquisition of titles such as Universal International Studios’ Dodger.

Mowbray joined the company after more than 14 years at Swedish pubcaster SVT, latterly as head of programme acquisitions. While there, he managed four teams, covering children’s, factual, feature films and fiction.

Prior to that, he served as MD of broadcaster TV7 as channel editor at Canal+, and held a lengthy, 12-year stint as head of Channel 4 International from 1986 to 1998.

Speaking to TBI last year, Mowbray discussed Viaplay’s kids content plans, including its focus on familiar animated IP and live-action comedy, and expansion of its kids reality offering. His exit was first reported by C21.
