Peacock returns reality format ‘The Traitors’ for second season

NBCUniversal streamer Peacock has ordered a second season of psychological adventure format The Traitors, less than a month after the show’s launch.

Based on the Dutch series De Verraders, the first season of the US adaptation launched on 12 January and saw 20 contestants come together to complete a series of challenges with the objective of earning a cash prize. However, three of the contestants were tasked with devising a plan to steal the prize from the other participants. Alan Cumming will return as host and producer for season two.

The US and UK versions of the format were commissioned at the same time and were produced in the Scottish Highlands by Studio Lambert Scotland. All3Media International, the sales arm of Studio Lambert owner All3Media, is selling rights globally.

In addition to the show’s renewal, a season one reunion special will stream on Peacock on 28 February, hosted by Andy Cohen. The reunion will bring the cast together for the first time since the season one finale.

“The Traitors is an ambitious, highly addictive and spontaneous format that keeps contestants and viewers on their toes,” said Corie Henson, EVP of entertainment, unscripted content, NBCUniversal. “Alan Cumming is a well-dressed genius, the producers at Studio Lambert are brilliant storytellers and the show is the perfect mix of drama and suspense to keep our ‘traitors’ and ‘faithfuls’ craving more.”

The first season of the US version of the format was picked up for broadcast in the UK by the BBC last month, just two weeks after the UK’s own version of show concluded.
