Malaysia’s Astro to adapt ITV drama ‘Liar’ with Double Vision

Astro in Malaysia has ordered a local adaptation of Liar, the UK drama about two people whose initial attraction has far reaching consequences.

The Malaysian version will be produced by Double Vision, following a deal with format distributor All3Media International, which has also acquired the rights to the finished series. The series is expected to debut on Astro Citra, On Demand and Astro GO in March 2023.

Liar was originally produced by Two Brothers Pictures for ITV and Sundance TV and the scripted format has already been adapted in seven territories, including India, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Greece and Turkey.

This new commission for Astro follows yesterday’s news that the broadcaster has acquired Fremantle’s entertainment gameshow format Family Feud, with plans to return it to screens in the country after an absence of almost 15 years.

Kit Yow, All3Media International’s VP APAC commented “We are thrilled to see this latest version of Liar so brilliantly adapted for a Malaysian audience – the talented team at Double Vision has produced an impeccably crafted and compelling drama told through a new cultural lens that delivers outstanding high-quality storytelling.

“We found the Muslim lens through which this story is told so powerful and fresh that we immediately wanted to buy back the rights to Double Vision’s adaptation, and we are delighted they have entrusted us to take this exceptional series to our international buyers.”
