Warner Bros. TV lines up DC content for Amazon, eyes ‘Harry Potter’ series
Warner Bros. Television Studios is set to strike a rich deal with Amazon for DC-branded content and is in “conversations” around a Harry Potter series.
Channing Dungey said the potential deal with Amazon for DC animation was part of a strategy to “explore animated IP on different platforms”.
Dungey, who was speaking on the second day of UK event Content London, said: “Animation used to be about staying in house but we are now doing it on different platforms.
“HBO Max is a first stop but we’re in the process of closing a big deal with Amazon featuring DC branded content in animation too.”
Further details were kept under wraps, but the Warner Bros. exec added that a TV show based on the Harry Potter universe is the subject of “a number of different conversations.”
As per US studio’s growing demand for franchises, Warners has already spun off reunion show Harry Potter: Return To Hogwarts and competition series Hogwarts Tournament of Houses.
Dungey admitted that an announcement was not “imminent” but added that there remains “a lot of interest and a lot of passion for it.”
“There’s a tremendous amount of ambition for it and we’re engaged in a number of different conversations.”
Dungey also said she expected budgets to plateau and added that the pandemic had proven that successful series could be produced for less.
