Sony’s Crunchyroll & Wowow strike pact to expand anime offering

Bye Bye Earth

Sony-backed anime brand Crunchyroll has linked up with Wowow in Japan to develop and produce a series of new shows, starting with the fantasy adventure Bye Bye, Earth.

The deal, which also has Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan attached, will see Tom Ubukata’s Bye Bye, Earth turned into a series, ewith the story following lead character Bell in her quest to discover her roots.

Bye Bye, Earth and each subsequent series created by the trio will broadcast and stream on Wowow in Japan. Crunchyroll will take rest of world.

“Anime fans love to discover new worlds and our partnership with Wowow and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan will allow us to present new adventures to the global anime community,” said Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll.
