Prime Video UK investigates Meredith Kercher murder
Amazon’s SVOD service Prime Video has ordered a feature-length documentary examining the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, for the UK & Ireland.
The 1 x 90-minute The Murder Of Meredith will debut next month, with Abacus Media Rights handling global sales outside the UK and presenting the title to buyers at MIPCOM.
Produced by Woodcut Media, the documentary reframes the narrative of the events that occurred on the evening of 1 November 2007, so that the focus of this crime is on the victim Meredith Kercher, a 21-year-old British student who was brutally murdered in the university town of Perugia, Italy.
Her story led to a media frenzy with twists and turns, and speculation. Over the years, Meredith’s life and reputation have been pulled apart and eclipsed by that of her then flatmate, Amanda Knox who at the time was accused alongside Rudy Guede and Raffaele Sollecito of being responsible for her death. Told by those involved in the case, The Murder Of Meredith examines the evidence, the egos, and the errors that left Meredith’s family with more questions than answers.
The film is produced and directed by Angie Cox, executive produced by Matthew Gordon and Koulla Anastasi for Woodcut Media.
“Fifteen years on from one of the most talked about murders in modern history, we bring together the key people involved in the original investigation. We also hear from Patrick Lumumba, who Amanda Knox falsely accused of the murder. At the heart of this are Meredith and her family. And with archive of family interviews and press conferences, we show how a family united in grief fought for the truth,” said Cox.
