HBO & HBO Max shows score big at Emmy Awards

The White Lotus

HBO and HBO Max were the standout winners at the 2022 Emmy Awards in LA overnight, with The White Lotus and Succession among major successes.

The White Lotus took the outstanding limited series, as well as four other awards, including creator Mike White snagging director and writer Emmys for his work on the show.

Media drama Succession bagged the outstanding drama series and its creator, Jesse Armstrong, took the drama series writer prize.

HBO’s parent, Warner Bros. Discovery, claimed almost 50 awards in total across shows it aired and produced, with Apple TV+ hit Ted Lasso taking the outstanding comedy series. It is produced by Warner Bros.

Its star Jason Sudeikis won the comedy lead actor prize and Brett Goldstein took best supporting actor in a comedy series for a second consecutive year.

The best lead actress in a drama series prize went to Zendaya for HBO’s Euphoria, and Jean Smart won the comedy award with Hacks, produced for streamer HBO Max.

Elsewhere, Lee Jung-jae was named lead actor for his role on Netflix hit Squid Game, becoming the first South Korean to win the accolade.

Disney+’s The Beatles: Get Back took the top doc prize and Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls landed outstanding competition trophy for Amazon Prime Video.
