Netflix orders ‘Big Vape’ docuseries on e-cigarette firm Juul

Netflix has ordered a new docuseries based on the book Big Vape: The Incendiary Rise Of Juul, by US journalist Jamie Ducharme.

The adaptation will be directed and executive produced by RJ Cutler, who was behind Showtime’s Belushi and Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry for Apple TV+.

Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will exec produce for Amblin Television, alongside Elise Pearlstein and Trevor Smith for This Machine, and Ian Orefice and Rebecca Teitel for Time Studios.

Ducharme is the health correspondent at Time Magazine. Her book was optioned by Amblin last year, with Cutler joining the project in February.

The series will explore the rise of Juul from a small tech start-up to a multibillion-dollar tobacco company that cornered the market.

News of the series order was first reported by US trade Deadline.
