Gay Jesus comedy draws fire for Netflix in Brazil

The First Temptation of Christ

A Netflix comedy that depicts Jesus as gay has drawn widespread criticism in Brazil.

Over 1.8 million people have signed a Change.org petition calling on the streaming service to remove the show, The First Temptation of Christ.

The show was created by Brazilian YouTube comedy group Porta dos Fundos and portrays Jesus bringing home his presumed boyfriend Orlando to meet the Holy Family.

The petition on Change.org called for the 46-minute holiday special to be removed from Netflix and said it had offended Christians.

Porta dos Fundos won an International Emmy last month for its comedy The Last Hangover.

Porta dos Fundos said in a statement: “Porta dos Fundos values artistic freedom and humor through satire on the most diverse cultural themes of our society and believes that freedom of expression is an essential construction for a democratic country.”
