Netflix orders second Spanish original
Netflix has commissioned its second Spanish original series, Elite, which is currently in development.
The Spanish language drama title will be released globally in 2019. The first season will consist of 8 episodes and will be entirely shot in 4K.
Elite is created by Carlos Montero (El comisario, The Time in Between, Physical or Chemical) and Darío Madrona (Génesis, La chica de ayer, The Protected).
The story is based in Las Encinas, an exclusive school in Spain where the elite send their children to study. It is also where three working class kids have just been admitted after their academy was destroyed by an earthquake. It follows the clash between the two groups.
The show will be executive produced by Zeta Audiovisual (Ahora o Nunca, Three Steps Above Heaven, I Want You).
Erik Barmack, vice president of international original series at Netflix says: “We are excited to be working with such talented producers and writers on an edgy, young thriller from Spain that will resonate with a global audience.”
Netflix initially released its first original Spanish drama Las Chicas del Cable in April.
There has been a Spanish SVOD boom this year with Telefonica, HBO and Netflix all working with more Spanish originals.
