ITV sets up Dating in the Dark
ITV has ordered a UK version of Dating in the Dark.
The series, which was created by Talpa and is distributed by John de Mol’s company, was previously on Sky Living in the UK, will be on the ITV2 channel.
Talpa is now owned by ITV, but still run autonomously out of the Netherland. The format deal is another sign of the formats company and broadcaster working more closely.
The new UK version of the dating format will be made by another company ITV has acquired, Twofour.
The format sees singletons go on a series of dates in the pitch black. They select what they think is the best match before the lights are switched on.
Satmohan Panesar commissioned the show for ITV. He said: “How will a new generation of young viewers and daters react to this classic looks vs personality dilemma? For an Instagram generation, the question is perhaps more interesting than ever, and we’re really excited to be bringing Dating In The Dark to ITV2.”
Cat Lawson, head of entertainment at Twofour and series executive producer said: “The format is truly brilliant. It questions the perceptions and judgments we all make in our quest for finding love. Dating In The Dark really does test the age old question: is love blind?”
