HBO Go expands to Lat Am, Caribbean
HBO’s on-demand service, HBO Go, is launching in Latin America and the Caribbean as a standalone platform.
HBO Latin America has launched HBO Go as an a la carte premium service offering programming from its HBO and Max channels to non-pay TV-subscribing customers.
HBO is already available in the territories as part of the premium HBO/Max subscription pay TV package.
The various distribution platforms offering the new service will be announced shortly, with pricing revealed in each market prior to launch.
“We have seen changes in content consumption habits and are launching this new HBO Go platform as an à la carte service in response to those trends,” said Emilio Rubio, CEO of HBO Latin America.
“We are creating options and adding more flexibility to our model and for our distributors, giving consumers the choice to enjoy the Premium content of HBO/Max in the manner they want.”
In the US last year, HBO took the bold step of launching an a la carte service, HBO Now, to combat increased cord-cutting and target younger ‘cord-never’ demographics.
HBO Latin America, which Time Warner and Ole Communications control, earlier this year took over distribution of NBCUniversal International nets Universal Channel, Studio Universal and Syfy from Fox International Channels.
