Viacom cuts pre-MIP format deals
Viacom has struck a series of format deals ahead of the trip to Cannes next week.
Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) has shopped Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to GDSTV in Georgia.
The channel will air a local version of The Daily Show, the second ever format deal for the comedy satire show, which has only ever previously been remade in the Netherlands.
The Georgian series will be hosted by local celebrity Ilo Beroshvili, who will take the role made famous by Jon Stewart in the original US show.
The local adaptation will air 5 nights a week from September 2015.
VIMN has also shopped a local version of Ridiculousnes to Canal 13 in Chile, marking the first format deal for the the MTV clip show.
The original US version of the internet clip-based show – now in its sixth season – features amateur viral videos being critiqued by MTV personality Rob Dyrde. In Chile it is titled Ridiculos Chile.
VIMN has also secured additional slew of option deals for MTV reality hits Ex on the Beach and Are You the One?
Shine in Australia has optioned Ex on the Beach while La Grosse Equipe in France and Endemol in Spain have optioned MTV’s Are You The One?
VIMN’s MIPTV formats slate is headlined by Lip Sync Battle, the upcoming comedy gameshow that will debut on Spike in the US. It is based on a segment in Jimmy Fallon’s US talkshow and the first offering from his prodco Eight Million Plus. Hosted by LL Cool J, it pits celebrities against each other as they lip sync to a song of their choice with the audience deciding the winner.
