Kingdom comes to Cannes as Captain America star flies in
Hollywood star Frank Grillo is heading to MIPCOM to promote his new drama series Kingdom (pictured).
Endemol Studios is producing the US drama and Captain America lead Grillo and his co-star Nick Jonas will be in Cannes to promote the show, which will launch on DirecTV’s Audience Network in October, just ahead of MIPCOM.
The series is billed as a visceral family drama and is set in California against a backdrop of Mixed Martial Arts. Grillo plays an MMA gym owner and Jonas, the former boy band star, plays his son.
Kingdom executive producer Byron Balasco (Detroit 1-8-7) will also be at MIPCOM to promote the series, which Endemol will screen on the Tuesday of the market.
Producer and distributor Endemol also said it will bring British actors Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan) and Bertie Carvel (Restless) to the south of France.
They will be in town to talk to buyers and press about Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, their upcoming drama series based on the eponymous Susanna Clarke novel. The period drama follows a pair of magicians (Marsan and Carvel) as they team up to fight the Napoleonic Wars against France.
Cuba Films and Feel Films are making the show alongside copro partners including BBC America, Space, Screen Yorkshire, Canadian prodco Cite Amerique and Endemol, which is selling it internationally and will launch it at the market.
Cathy Payne, CEO of Endemol Worldwide Distribution said: “It’s a terrific honour to have this calibre of talent in Cannes representing such highly-anticipated new shows. We’ve got a fantastically varied line up this MIPCOM, headlined by the epic 19th century story of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell alongside the hard hitting contemporary drama of Kingdom.”
