MIPTV News: Starz secures VH1’s ‘biggest scripted series’
Starz Worldwide Distribution has secured international rights to VH1’s upcoming scripted series Hit the Floor (fka Bounce).
SWD, a division of Starz, the US premium cable channel will launch the 10x60mins first season, which is produced by Bryan Johnson, The Film Syndicate and Cahoots Media, at MIPTV. It has rights for all territories outside the US.
The show was billed as Viacom-owned VH1’s “biggest scripted effort to date” by Eddie Dalva, executive VP, content and programme enterprises, entertainment and music groups, Viacom Media Networks.
It comes from James LaRosa, stars Dean Cain (The New Adventures of Superman, pictured), Kimberly Elise (John Q, Diary of a Mad Black Woman) and Charlotte Ross (NYPD Blue, Days of Our Lives) and follows the lives of the dance team for the fictional Los Angeles Devils professional basketball team.
LaRosa executive produces, along with Maggie Malina and VH1 executives Jill Holmes and Jeff Olde.
SWD’s slate also includes Starz Originals such as Spartacus and The White Queen.
