MIPCOM Hot Pick: Rock Star Home Invasion
What do you do when your family is in trouble and you can’t cope anymore? In Finland, the answer is to call on a group of rock stars to solve your problems.
Rock Star Home Invasion is a Finnish format that swaps therapists for band members.
It is produced by Rabbit Films, the company behind international reality series The Dudesons and airs on Sub TV, the Bonnier-owned youth-skewing entertainment network.
“The Nordic region as a whole has a talent for producing factual content with a fresh twist. But the Finns are in a league of their own when it comes to creating weird, wonderful, off the wall entertainment. Rock Star Home Invasion is a prime example,” says Jan Salling, COO, Nordic World, which is distributing the format as well as the finished tape.
The show follows an Ozzy Osbourne or Tommy Lee-style rocker who helps deal with issues including bullying and post traumatic stress disorder.
“It’s full volume rock ‘n’ roll entertainment, but it’s entertainment with a purpose; helping families in crisis and its record ratings in Finland prove that this is exactly what viewers want,” Salling adds.
He is confident that the show will be a global hit following its launch in Cannes. “I’ll be very surprised if we don’t return from MIPCOM with sales in at least 15 territories,” he says.
